Picoult… Comic Book Writer

DC’s Wonder Woman finally gets a top level female author!!! Here is an interview with Jodi who is a new writer in the Comic world, writing Wonder Woman. And a Quote from that interview!
NRAMA: Right, efforts to give her an identity in the past have usually involved depowering her…
JP: Right, and that takes me back to the guys who were writing her. I don’t know why she’s always victimized, because to me, that’s one of the most attractive things about Wonder Woman – she is the most powerful woman! And that’s an amazing and wonderful thing.
I think that there’s a difference between having insecurities at an emotional level, and having insecurities at a physical level. And that becomes a very interesting conundrum. What if you can punch a hole through a wall, and you can get yourself out of any physical mess necessary, and you are strength-matched to someone like Superman, but you are a little unsure about who you are, deep inside, and how you want others to see you?
And from a Comiccon.com article,
Since it’s still several months away, Picoult didn’t want to spoil anything about her upcoming story, but noted she did try for one change in the character. “I actually tried to get Wonder Woman a breast reduction,” Picoult joked. “DC didn’t go for it. As a woman writing this, I thought, ‘there’s no way I would fight crime in a bustier,’ but I was overruled. Comic books will always be a venue for teenage boys, so the costume stays!”
I don’t have my copies of the Wonder Woman comic, but I will soon, have no fear. And then at Jodi’s booksigning, (more on that later), I will get them autographed. Its a good life. So if you like comics (or regardless, support your local authors!) pick up Wonder Woman by Jodi Picoult on March 28th!
