Breaking Dawn, post 3

So, read Breaking Dawn this weekend! Stephenie Meyer really knows how to draw you in. Everyone was amazed at how fast I read that book, but I could NOT put it down.

Out of the four Twilights, I would not say this is my favorite… and I did not like the name choices in it (if you have read it, you understand), BUT I did like the story. There were twists and turns I could not and did not even GUESS or think about.

My problem. Where was the violence? People have been saying that there was excessive violence… but except for one gory scene (which was violent, but not in the same way the end of Eclipse was violent), yeah… not a lot. At the end especially I was expecting more violence, and was a little surprised the way it turned out.

Unlike some others, I did REALLY like this book. I thought that the ending was sweet, the little things that happened, the big things that happened, Bella’s discoveries about herself and I loved the side-tracking and preparation she made. No where NEAR enough Alice though.

That is actually my only problem with the Meyer books. The plot lines get so exciting that you don’t get to kick back and hang out with the Cullens, or with Jake and Seth and Leah. Yeah I know BELLA gets to, but I want to TOO! So that is my opinion of Breaking Dawn.

I loved it, it was a great story, and if you want to be psycho mean, please stay away! But if you haven’t read this story YET (and you should of course), eventual comments may have spoilers. The discovery is as much fun as the destination.

Stephenie Meyer day

First, you HAVE bought your copy of Host that went on sale today… right?
It is beautiful, and bigger than I thought. Going by the advance, I thought it would be a little thinner, but for $26.99 (ouch) it works for its thickness. It really was a great book, and has gotten some really good reviews.

Secondly, in the film version of Twilight. Reality is coming closer. And yes, you know where I will be on December 12th.

Tantalize

I know I know, “ANOTHER Vamp novel?”

Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith is actually an interesting concept. The entire book is set up as menu (which makes sense as the subplot is the renovation of the family restaurant into a vampire-themed restaurant). Beginning with antipasto, then primo, secondo, dolce, and finishing it up with contorno(being the author’s note and acknowledgements).

There was only one real problem for me. I did like the vamp storyline, the secondary characters were wonderful, her relationship with best friend Kieran (incidentally a Werewolf) was great, and that they named her daily planner (Frank) was really the best. But there wasn’t… enough. It was a good read, but when I finished, I wanted more. Not the type of “wanting more” as in a sequel. It was the type where I wish there had been more to the book. That said, it did an excellent job of combining the dark fantasy with the restaurant/food themed ideas. A quote, from the back cover of my advance,

Of Tantalize, [Cynthia Leitich Smith] says, “I tapped into my romantic nature, my love of monsters and marinara. Hold the garlic and enjoy!”

tantalize

All my hesitations aside, I think this book is definitely worth the read. It is another really good view of vampires, and hopefully there will be more about Quincie Morris, because I honestly liked her! And this lovely vampire tale goes on sale the day before Valentine’s day, February 13th, 2007.

Full Moon Rising

Full Moon Rising is a paranormal romance by Keri Arthur. By paranormal romance, they mean it involves vampires and werewolves. Our heroine, Riley Jensen, is a half-breed of Werewolf and Vampire. This book sucked me in. I stayed up late to finish it, and was thrilled from the first words through the end.
Book cover
This woman is a hilarious author. Even in the kinky sex scenes, Keri kept the writing fun and I would definitely say that she stayed away from the obvious and often cliche world of romance novels. Keri made the characters fun and sexy and confusing and their interactions were wonderful to read. This is however a romance novel. Part of Keri’s world is that werewolves go into “heat” at the full moon. The week before the full moon they basically need LOTS of sex and then the actual night of the full moon, they transform fully into wolves. This “heat” concept is definitely a large part of the romance part of the novel.

Australian author Arthur’s fast-paced fantasy-romance, the first in a new series, introduces part vampire, part werewolf Riley Jenson, who works for Melbourne’s Directorate of Other Races, as does her twin brother, Rhoan. When Rhoan goes missing, a naked yet powerful vampire, Quinn, appears on Riley’s doorstep and asks for her aid. Riley and Quinn team up to find Rhoan, investigate the mysterious deaths of Directorate agents and determine who’s been creating vampire and werewolf clones. Despite their mutual attraction, Quinn—once heartbroken by a werewolf lover—will never fully trust another werewolf, but that doesn’t stop him from helping Riley through the lust that engulfs werewolves in the days leading up to the full moon. Strong, smart and capable, Riley will remind many of Anita Blake, Laurell K. Hamilton’s kick-ass vampire hunter. While Arthur (Beneath a Rising Moon) occasionally loses control of her plot as she sets the stage for later books, and some romance readers may be put off by the lack of monogamy, fans of Anita Blake and Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse vampire series will be rewarded.
-Publishers Weekly

If you don’t enjoy romance novels, then you will definitely not enjoy this book. If you do enjoy them however, and don’t mind vamps and weres, then you should check it out!
Also, if you do like it, and become as addicted as I have become, have no fear! There are further adventures to be released in February (Kissing Sin), March (Tempting Evil), and April (Dangerous Games).

Full Moon Rising will be available in stores starting in January of 2007. There is no specfic date listed, but you should start to see publicity in USA Today, Sci Fi Magazine, Locus and more. Also look at the publisher’s website, www.bantamdell.com for more promotions.
