Pre-nup is completely worth it

You might think this book is just another little bit of fluff. The cover indicates it is definitely woman fiction. Yes to the woman’s fiction part, but it was so much more than just a bit of fluff. These days it seems that there is not enough “pressure” (if that is the right word) on what should be done to keep a marriage together. I think that this book shows (in a fabulous and fun way) different routes you can take.

Amazon info here though please make sure to purchase through your local independent bookshop! And from the Random House website,

All you need is love? For the residents of swanky Mayfair Estates, a pre-nup is just another item on the wedding to-do checklist—but three friends get more than they bargained for when they promise to love, cherish . . . and sign on the dotted line.

Ellie married her handsome, wealthy Prince Charming when she was young, naive, and willing to sign a one-sided pre-nup in the name of true love. But seven years and one toddler later, her happily-ever-after has come screeching to a halt. If she can’t save her marriage, she’s determined to save her divorce…. When Jen married Eric, he knew she wasn’t head over heels. Still, he insisted they were perfect together and even bankrolled her business. But when Jen’s career takes off, she may lose the husband she loves more than she realized—and everything else she’s worked for…. Up-and-coming attorney Mara is sure her fiancé has forgiven her for a foolish one-night fling—until he adds a “cheating clause” to the pre-nup she had demanded. If he really trusts her, why the clause? And if she’s really trustworthy, why is she objecting?

As romance collides with real life, three very different women turn to each other for moral support and insights about how to safeguard their most valuable assets: their hearts.

Good review over at Genre Go Round. It really is a great friendship book, though I did not feel that the men were all that thin on the description. From that review, “Thus the reader never fully sees the viewpoints of Michael, Eric or Josh.” While you don’t see the viewpoint of the three men, I feel that the way Kendrick writes them shows the kind of men they are. While I was definitely not endeared to Michael, I actually respected Eric and Josh as much as the three women.

It was a fun one and goes on sale on November 25th, 2008. Head on over to your local independent bookshop, and then start reading!

Stop what you are doing. Go read Tethered

I just finished Tethered by Amy MacKinnon. It was phenomenal. Truly phenomenal. I took an extra break so I could read more. I did not even log into my WiiFit because I was reading. Beautiful and heart-wrenching, and yeah, go read it right now!

The book description from the Random House webpage:

Clara Marsh is an undertaker who doesn’t believe in God. She spends her solitary life among the dead, preparing their last baths and bidding them farewell with a bouquet from her own garden. Her carefully structured life shifts when she discovers a neglected little girl, Trecie, playing in the funeral parlor, desperate for a friend.

It changes even more when Detective Mike Sullivan starts questioning her again about a body she prepared three years ago, an unidentified girl found murdered in a nearby strip of woods. Unclaimed by family, the community christened her Precious Doe. When Clara and Mike learn Trecie may be involved with the same people who killed Precious Doe, Clara must choose between the stead-fast existence of loneliness and the perils of binding one’s life to another.

Update to a Pdf Infection

Hey there, as per Scott’s website, you should go download the pdf NOW.

Also, here is the link to do it!! http://www.randomhouse.com/crown/infected/downloads/infected_novel.pdf

From his website,

Crown Publishing is letting me give away the PDF of INFECTED from March 27 through March 31, leading up to the hardcover in-store release on April 1. So download it! Feel free to email the link to anyone you know.

Please do not email the PDF, email the LINK. This is so I can prove to Crown the value in giving away content, and if your friends click on the link, that counts on their server stats - emailing the PDF doesn’t count on the stats.
THANKS & ENJOY!

Don’t worry about downloading something entitled, “INFECTED.” It is not a virus, and only begin to worry if you start having talking triangles on your genitalia….

Then worry A LOT.

Interesting bit on Infected.

As most of you have gathered by my recent flurry on Infected, I’m a bit excited about it.

face with triangles

But beyond my advance that I got, there was the audio, and for a short time, there will be a PDF available for download. But what is interesting is that Itunes is not very happy with getting all of Scott’s word, and there have been troubles for others too. (Mine might be because the computer goes to sleep and shuts off Itunes…)

A really interesting blog post at BoingBoing.net. I enjoyed the post and *most* of the comments. But it does raise interesting questions for publishing. Scott has basically proven that if you let people download it, they WILL read it (and therefore get excited enough to buy it hopefully), but by limiting the download time, and especially before the book is even OUT, how can they keep track of the numbers of people who are actually getting to the book.

I don’t know, but it will be interesting to watch! In the meantime, go find your pdf of Infected if you want it, buy it anyway on April 1st, and listen to his other stuff too :)

The Infection Continues

More on INFECTED by Scott Sigler.

face with triangles

Head on over to his Wiki page for more info on him. The Wiki page has a good listing of his technological attributes. He is BIG into the podcasts and such, with his earliest book Earthcore actually being a podcast novel. Fans of Earthcore called it EarthCrack… hence the junkies name, by the way (this tidbit I learned through his website). The external links section all has some good references for other Junkies.

Also check out his Random House page, because they are the ones publishing his books and getting him into the print mainstream.

Sometimes I feel that I am the only one without a MySpace page… that said, go friend Scott’s MySpace page.

And the grand tidbit of the post, go listen to the first two chapters at digg.com because it calls him the “love child of King and Crichton.” That is a great description. Another collection of reviews at Sleepys-view.

One more, for kicks.
Squidoo.com has a post entitled, “My Ipod Ate My Iphone Just to Get to the New Scott Sigler Podcast Novel.” This is a great site because their leprechaun post has my sexy leprechaun boyfriend (pictures 2 and 3).

I hope you enjoy this collection of links of the fabulous Scott Sigler. I have started listening to the Infected podcasts and yeah, knowing where the books are going.. I’m scared already.

No Cream Puffs

cream puffs

MADISON IS NOT your average 12-year-old girl from Michigan in 1980. She doesn’t use lipgloss, but she loves to play sports, and joins baseball for the summer—the first girl in Southern Michigan to play on a boys’ team. The press call her a star and a trailblazer, but Madison just wants to play ball. Who knew it would be so much pressure? Crowds flock to the games. Her team will win the championship—if she can keep up her pitching streak. Meanwhile, she’s got a crush on a fellow player, her best friend abandons her for the popular girls, the “O” on her Hinton’s uniform forms a bulls-eye over her left breast, and the boy she punched on the last day of school plans to bean her in the championship game.

This is the description of “No Cream Puffs” by Karen Day. It has a May 2008 release date, so it is coming out pretty far in the future, but it is good enough to talk about NOW. It is being published by Random House and this is Karen Day’s second novel.

whipped creampuff

Let me tell you why I liked this book. It felt like you were twelve again. You are beginning adolescence, becoming a teenager, your body is changing and your mother obviously doesn’t understand no matter what she says. Madison doesn’t like the attention she is getting, she just wants to play ball. She likes the cute boy on the team, but he isn’t all he is cracked up to be, and it is sometimes a shock to discover what is hidden from you. When I was a kid there were plenty of things I noticed… There were even more things I did NOT notice. Madison has a similar feeling. Her older brother and her mom discuss the hostages in Iran. (The book takes place in 1980.) She doesn’t understand what is actually happening… or where Iran is, but she does understand the tension and that it isn’t right.

This book FEELS like a twelve year old. And that is why I liked it, beyond the fun story, interesting situations and good characterization.

Look for No Cream Puffs by Karen Day wherever books are sold (though preferably at your local independent bookshop) in May of 2008.
