Minerva Louise, a silly chicken

One of my new favorite children books is that of Minerva Louise by Janet Morgan Stoeke. Sadly, it seems that not all are easily available, but they are WORTH looking for them. Minerva Louise and the Red Truck is the newest adventure of the little white hen. She has an adorable way of looking at things, taking them at face value, and not what humans think of as face value; what chickens think of as face value.

My favorite boy in the world, Xander, is my favorite Minerva Louise reading partner. His collection includes A Hat for Minerva Louise, and now Minerva Louise and the Red Truck.
how cute is that?
That was the first night he got it, and I read it to him once, his mom read it to him twice and his dad read it to him twice again. That is FIVE times total in one evening. Safe to say, Minerva Louise is a hit.

If you have not experienced her, in all her bird-brained glory, check her out. You won’t regret it!

Blog Roll No Sheep

Here is another Blog Roll. No Sheep is Zach, who is married to Sara. Small world eh? Unlike Sara who blogs about the baby and mother-dom, Zach blogs about computer stuff, comic book stuff, and other hilarious stuff worthy of a mention.

random kittens from zach

One of my favorite blog posts of Zach’s is that of the random baby kittens. Sara brought home three abandoned kittens that she had found. Regardless of how cute they are, and yeah they were WICKED cute, my favorite part is that this completely random blog post about baby kittens is one of his top hit posts. People comment asking if any of the kittens are available. (Mind you the post was from 2005… people STILL comment asking… hehe)

So Zach has completely random things like the kittens, hilarious things like Will Ferrell being chewed out by a two year old and worth while things like how to do things in java.. and C++ and other things I don’t understand but that comp-geeks DO understand.

Definitely a worthwhile blog to add to your own blog-roll! Check him out!

Put Stephenie Meyer together with Stephen Colbert, and PRESTO CHANGO you get this video. Watch and enjoy my friends!

Super Bowl Commercials!!

Once again, I know I know, this is NOT ABOUT BOOKS. But, the super bowl WAS last night, so why not?

My favorite was GM’s sad robot.

And my other favorites, in no particular order.

The Budweiser “Rock Paper Scissors” commercial.

Doritos “Crunchy, smooth?”
I thought this was fabulous. I also enjoyed that Doritos opened it up to people to come up with the ideas instead of just using their own marketing team.

Coke had a good set of commercials. My favorite of their bunch was “Grand Theft Auto.”

Budweiser seemed to be the only beer doing commercials. Left and right there were Bud’s and Bud Light’s. This was my other favorite Bud commerical. I also enjoyed that the dog was (seemingly) half golden half pit.

What was your favorite? Also, check out Nosheep’s top commercials!

Comically… Season 8?

I love Joss Whedon.
joss on angel
There, I’ve said it. Now that you know that, you should also know that I have seen all of Buffy (7 seasons) and Angel (5 seasons). I also own Firefly and Serenity. I went to a pre-release screening of Serenity, with two of the actors from the show there. So yeah, much love.

Buffy (the show, though I also loved the movie) was an amazing show. It survived one possible cancellation, but shows can only go on so long. Joss, as the creator had never really given up on Buffy, and now, Buffy returns in COMIC form!!!!
The entire reason for this post is because Zach has done an entire post Over at Nosheep.net. Make sure you read his article because it has all the facts that will help to build your excitement!!!!!Also, here at TvGuide.com there is an interview with Joss. Here is a quote from the article.

But the idea of doing movies about some of the ancillary characters got me really excited, because I love those actors and I love that world. That kind of fell through, but when I started working on the comic… I sketched out this sort of broad arc that would connect everything. Now it will probably only appear on the comic-book pages, but it will be really well drawn.

So check out the full article at NoSheep.net and start getting psyched for the return of Buffy!

Pride and Prejudice

Ah the wonder of Jane Austen. I for one am a BIG Austen fan. As with many people, I prefer her more popular books. Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Pride and Prejudice are some of my favorite books of all time, let alone just of Jane’s. I enjoy her writing, and I love the time that she writes in. This post obviously is not to increase her readership, which is pretty constant, but just to show off all the cool Jane stuff out there and my own personal stuff.
jane austen book cover
This is the new Jane Austen Collection. Put out by Penguin Books, it is a lovely collection of all of her novels. It is also only $25.00 (U.S.). So if you like her, it is a great deal.

To show my obsession, particularly with P&P, I thought I would show off all my own cool stuff.
I heart mr. darcy
This is my new T-shirt that I got from Sara and Zach. It is a t-shirt which is plain white except for the writing on the front. I think it is just the BEST t-shirt. Honestly, what woman out there does not want a rich, handsome, slightly conflicted man to confess his love to her? This leads us DIRECTLY into…
p&p colin
The wonder of Colin Firth. Ah… the perfect Mr. Darcy… I love this movie. It is awesome because it is an A&E event, and is like, seven hours long. Ah, the wonder of it all. From the IMDB bio-page, Colin Firth,

Has played a Mr Darcy on three occasions. Once in “Pride and Prejudice” (1995) (mini), in Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and again in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004).

And then a movie of Pride and Prejudice from 1995 leads directly into…
p&p keira
The 2005 movie edition done with Keira Knightly. Also wonderful, with some seriously AMAZING filming done in this. This movie is worth being viewed only for its cinematic techniques, regardless of the movie content. Yes, it is that good.

Sadly, my only copy of Pride and Prejudice in bookform is the Barnes and Noble Hardcover. But it was from my gram, and a book is still a book!
p&p

I do not really feel a need to give you a summary of P&P, because honestly, if you have not seen any of the movies, or Bridget Jones’ Diary, you simply don’t care enough anyways. Sidenote, there is a hilarious version, called Bride and Prejudice, which is the indian (musical) version, and is definitely worth it.
For technical reference, both of the movie covers for this post were the promotional images posted on Amazon.com. The shirt is obviously mine, as is the B&N book, and the Collected works image is from the Penguin site.
