Serenity…2?

I love Joss Whedon. Yes it is true, he is up there with Colin Firth, just yummy in a creation way instead of a licking way… *cough* Anyways, his Buffy and Angel were GREAT shows, but his BEST was Firefly. Oh Firefly how I love you…. The movie Serenity was ALSO fabulous (though I prefer the show… 13 hours versus 2.5, math DOES apply in your adult life!).
Here is my guinea pig Horatio with my Jayne Hat, Firefly discs and Serenity DVD.

Horatio as Jayne Cobb from Firefly

Joss makes me love the Tangents, Anyways, I found an article about the ~POSSIBILITY~ of Serenity 2!!!
Here is the link, at Moviehole. And here is the article, for the link-phobic.

Serenity 2 A New Hope?
Date : October 4, 2007 Writer : Clint Morris
I love “Firefly” – so much so every time I’d see it I’d squeeze its cheeks, bring it in closer and share saliva with it. It’s a show that had the danglers to say “screw you! We’re not going anywhere!” despite the fact the network yanked it after 12 episodes. And then, just when it looked like it was done, it remerged as a full-length mother-hoppin’ movie – and by golly if it didn’t bring a lump to George Lucas’s throat.

When Alan Tudyk told me on the phone this morning that a sequel to “Serenity” – that’s the name of the “Firefly” movie for those who’ve been up at Guantanamo Bay for the past couple of years – could be happening I just about dropped the phone (I didn’t though, because the last time I did that it landed in the loo. Fried itself. And as a consequence, I lost all my numbers.) Tudyk says the newly-released “Serenity : Special Edition“ DVD has been selling so hot, that there’s talk in doing another movie.

“They had to put [the new DVD] out because they’ve been selling out of the other one and so Universal’s like ‘So, let’s do another one’. And now… there’s now a chance there’s going to be another movie”.

Tudyk agrees that even if it was a direct-to-DVD movie, it’d still be worthwhile. Especially since the whole DVD sequel is a big trend.

“It really is”, says Tudyk. “Everybody in the Firefly crew – and that includes the ones who died in the movie – are excited about the prospect of doing another”.

Nathan Fillion, says Tudyk, is especially keen. “We were out a couple of weeks ago together at a party and there was a bunch of people there, and he was like ‘Oh, look we’re Browncoats”.

Great to hear Fillion’s still as crazy as ever about wearing the Tightpants again.

Tudyk says he heard from creator Joss Whedon a few weeks back – but mainly about Tudyk’s role in the new Western “3:10 to Yuma”. “He sent me an email when it first came out because at first he thought I was a different character – by the trailer”, he laughs. “He was like ‘My god! You’re playing such a bad-ass!’ That was Ben Foster, who is such a bad-ass in that movie, and is just brilliant, just brilliant, and we both have a similar look – we both have polish genes – and anyway, Joss writes back ‘Sorry, I didn’t realise you were the sympathetic funny character – how would cast you as that?’. Joss, that would be you!”.

The actor, who appears in the new Frank Oz film “Death at a Funeral”, is absolutely blown-away by the life “Firefly” has had. He’s even headed downunder next week to appear at a science fiction convention. It amazes him even more that he got to do a feature film version of his 12-episode series. “That’s wild; you don’t see that happen until years later when it becomes a campy spoof of the thing. But even then, shows like Dukes of Hazzard and Starsky and Hutch were huge hits [from the beginning, and they didn’t do movies straight away] this was something that was a hit only with a group of people and it just grew.”

Likely to happen before a “Serenity” sequel though is an “I, Robot” sequel. Tudyk visited the set of Will Smith’s latest movie “I am Legend” to talk about the movie recently, and says he’d be super excited to play Sonny the robot again.

Yep, but what about Wash? Now that there’s the shizzle.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

And the movie is out!!!

hp movie photo

Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix
As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. It’’s been yet another infuriating and boring summer with the despicable Dursleys, this time with minimal contact from our hero’’s non-Muggle friends from school. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort will strike. Returning to Hogwarts will be a relief–or will it?

RATED: Pg-13 2hrs, 23mins.

Mr. Gaiman… I love you.

Ah, the love of Neil Gaiman. Seriously, have you ever heard this man speak???? If you haven’t, you need to get your act in gear. Additionally, if you have never read anything by him, you need to go into OVERDRIVE. He writes some GOOD Shi… Stuff.
The wonder and joy of Neverwhere (movie AND book), oh so yummy. I was blessed to meet Neil at Boskone(a Boston scifi convention), and it was so wonderful.

Now, onto the post!!! Stardust (also here) is being turned into a movie!

Michelle Pfiffer in Stardust

Here is a description

In the tranquil fields and meadows of long-ago England, there is a small hamlet that has stood on a jut of granite for 600 years. Just to the east stands a high stone wall, for which the village is named. Here, in the hamlet of Wall, young Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester. And here, one crisp October eve, Tristran makes his love a promise — an impetuous vow that will send him through the only breach in the wall, across the pasture… and into the most exhilarating adventure of his life.

A Rotten Tomatoes note of interest here. Additionally Here at Bookstandard there is some more technical info, actors, producing, etc etc.

Here is a link for the trailer.

You should DEFINITELY read the book first, though with some of his other stuff, like Neverwhere, the order is interchangeable because the movie was done first, and THEN the book. Gosh is Neverwhere great. gosh gosh gosh.

Okay, so August 10th this summer, GO SEE STARDUST!!!! woot woot

august release, boskone, boston, fantasy, fiction, film, gaiman, movie, neil gaiman, neverwhere, paperback, romance, science fiction, scifi, stardust

Bob Saget’s Creation

First, please be aware that this post is not about books AND is vulgar!!!

Bob Saget, of Full House Fame, has created a new movie. The easiest way to visualize it is as a combination of March of the Penguins, Happy Feet (sans animation, but yes, this movie DOES have song) and narrated by Samuel L. Jackson.

The website, Farce of the penguins.com is hilarious. You can make your own “trailer,” which I recommend. A clear list of all the voices is Here at IMDB.COM and it really is a great list of people.

It is a rated R movie (which you can tell through the website) so don’t take any little ones to it, but it definitely rates many many laughs.

And to quote the movie,

What Happens In Antarctica… Stays in Antarctica

farce penguins

I had not seen the movie when I posted this. But I have since, and seriously, LAUGH OUT LOUD funny. It is a little disturbing that Bob Saget’s penguin is in love with Christina Applegate’s penguin… but its all good. And yes, Uncle Joey and Stephenie (from Full House) do make appearances.

Pride and Prejudice

Ah the wonder of Jane Austen. I for one am a BIG Austen fan. As with many people, I prefer her more popular books. Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Pride and Prejudice are some of my favorite books of all time, let alone just of Jane’s. I enjoy her writing, and I love the time that she writes in. This post obviously is not to increase her readership, which is pretty constant, but just to show off all the cool Jane stuff out there and my own personal stuff.
jane austen book cover
This is the new Jane Austen Collection. Put out by Penguin Books, it is a lovely collection of all of her novels. It is also only $25.00 (U.S.). So if you like her, it is a great deal.

To show my obsession, particularly with P&P, I thought I would show off all my own cool stuff.
I heart mr. darcy
This is my new T-shirt that I got from Sara and Zach. It is a t-shirt which is plain white except for the writing on the front. I think it is just the BEST t-shirt. Honestly, what woman out there does not want a rich, handsome, slightly conflicted man to confess his love to her? This leads us DIRECTLY into…
p&p colin
The wonder of Colin Firth. Ah… the perfect Mr. Darcy… I love this movie. It is awesome because it is an A&E event, and is like, seven hours long. Ah, the wonder of it all. From the IMDB bio-page, Colin Firth,

Has played a Mr Darcy on three occasions. Once in “Pride and Prejudice” (1995) (mini), in Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and again in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004).

And then a movie of Pride and Prejudice from 1995 leads directly into…
p&p keira
The 2005 movie edition done with Keira Knightly. Also wonderful, with some seriously AMAZING filming done in this. This movie is worth being viewed only for its cinematic techniques, regardless of the movie content. Yes, it is that good.

Sadly, my only copy of Pride and Prejudice in bookform is the Barnes and Noble Hardcover. But it was from my gram, and a book is still a book!
p&p

I do not really feel a need to give you a summary of P&P, because honestly, if you have not seen any of the movies, or Bridget Jones’ Diary, you simply don’t care enough anyways. Sidenote, there is a hilarious version, called Bride and Prejudice, which is the indian (musical) version, and is definitely worth it.
For technical reference, both of the movie covers for this post were the promotional images posted on Amazon.com. The shirt is obviously mine, as is the B&N book, and the Collected works image is from the Penguin site.
