YOU JERK!!!

So whover it is that ruined Midnight Sun. Yeah, thanks A LOT. Really appreciate it. I am going to copy from her website, her post…

August 28, 2008 (part II)

As some of you may have heard, my partial draft of Midnight Sun was illegally posted on the Internet and has since been virally distributed without my knowledge or permission or the knowledge or permission of my publisher.

I have a good idea of how the leak happened as there were very few copies of Midnight Sun that left my possession and each was unique. Due to little changes I made to the manuscript at different times, I can tell when each left my possession and to whom it was given. The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to trusted individuals for a good purpose. I have no comment beyond that as I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution.

I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published. I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being. As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn’t mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control.

So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn’t like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn’t dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.

I’d rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun. It was only an incomplete draft; the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting? It has taken me a while to decide how and if I could respond. But to end the confusion, I’ve decided to make the draft available here (at the end of this message on the Midnight Sun page). This way, my readers don’t have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest. I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward’s head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That’s what inspired me to write it in the first place.

I do want to take a moment and thank the wonderful fans who have been so supportive of me over the past three years. I cannot begin to tell you how much each of you means to me. I only hope this note will stop all the confusion and online speculation so that the Twilight universe can once again become the happy escape it used to be. After this incredibly busy year, I am now focusing on spending more time with my family and working on some other writing projects.

–Stephenie

So yes. Whoever you are, you are a jerk. Thanks for ruining this for those of us who love and respect her work.

grrrr

Breaking Dawn, post 3

So, read Breaking Dawn this weekend! Stephenie Meyer really knows how to draw you in. Everyone was amazed at how fast I read that book, but I could NOT put it down.

Out of the four Twilights, I would not say this is my favorite… and I did not like the name choices in it (if you have read it, you understand), BUT I did like the story. There were twists and turns I could not and did not even GUESS or think about.

My problem. Where was the violence? People have been saying that there was excessive violence… but except for one gory scene (which was violent, but not in the same way the end of Eclipse was violent), yeah… not a lot. At the end especially I was expecting more violence, and was a little surprised the way it turned out.

breaking dawn cover

Unlike some others, I did REALLY like this book. I thought that the ending was sweet, the little things that happened, the big things that happened, Bella’s discoveries about herself and I loved the side-tracking and preparation she made. No where NEAR enough Alice though.

That is actually my only problem with the Meyer books. The plot lines get so exciting that you don’t get to kick back and hang out with the Cullens, or with Jake and Seth and Leah. Yeah I know BELLA gets to, but I want to TOO! So that is my opinion of Breaking Dawn.

I loved it, it was a great story, and if you want to be psycho mean, please stay away! But if you haven’t read this story YET (and you should of course), eventual comments may have spoilers. The discovery is as much fun as the destination.

Stephenie Meyer day

First, you HAVE bought your copy of Host that went on sale today… right?
It is beautiful, and bigger than I thought. Going by the advance, I thought it would be a little thinner, but for $26.99 (ouch) it works for its thickness. It really was a great book, and has gotten some really good reviews.

Secondly, in the film version of Twilight. Reality is coming closer. And yes, you know where I will be on December 12th.

Stephenie Meyer Event: Part One

Don’t forget that today is Bella’s Birthday! Head over to the Forks, Washington website, where they have an entire page of Twilight points of interest!

HPIM1889.jpg

I went to the Stephenie Meyer booksigning at the Barnes and Noble in Burlington Mass on September 11th, 2007.
HPIM1951.jpg

I will be splitting my review into three parts. This first part will be on general excitement with photos. Next will be more excitement with videos and the final part will be a critical review of the signing itself.

First, the excitement. Well, I got there at 2:30 pm, and there were probably already 20 people in line ahead of me, not counting the 20-30 that had already gotten their red wristbands. There was so much excitement that it was really reallly cool. Many people had dressed in their Twilight shirts. One woman had a Forks Washington t-shirt. I had on the t-shirt I made for work plus my own pin from Forks that my dad got when he rode his bike through there. Books that I had brought were my Twilight, my british Twilight, advance reader’s copy of New Moon and my hardcover Eclipse. This means that I brought a total of 4 books. There was no limit to books for being signed which was very cool, though there was a limit to personal autographs. There were some girls who brought even more than I. shown here…
HPIM1897.jpg

This was actually one of my chair buddies. We hung out for so long that we became friends. Remember, I got there at 2:30, and we were there until 7:20 when she arrived, through about 8:30 when we got to have her sign our books.
HPIM1922.jpg

These were my other chair buddies:
Before makeup: HPIM1884.jpg and now after makeup, HPIM1893.jpg.

Here are some shots of the store, FULL of Twilight fans. Keep in mind that these photos are when people were still milling about, it got much fuller. HPIM1890.jpg HPIM1919.jpg

Here are some shots of Stephenie from her Q&A section.

HPIM1929.jpg
HPIM1928.jpg

This is when we finally got close!!!

HPIM1945.jpg

I cannot begin to describe how amazing this event was. The people I sat with were Great and the enthusiasm was fantastic. It must be amazing for Stephenie that after only having had books out for two years, she has HUNDREDS of people show up at every signing. I would say there were over 500 people inside, not counting the hundred outside.

*cheers to Stephenie!!!*

All of my photos are on my Flickr page.

Post-Eclipse

Meyer trifecta

I finished Eclipse. (yes a while ago, but summer is busy, what can I say!) Wowsers was it good!

I had ONE MAJOR PROBLEM with it though… I bet a LOT of you shared my dilemma……

I could not IMMEDIATELY sit down and read book 4… other than that, I loved it. Good news Breaking Dawn is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2008, so hope is near… not TERRIBLY near, but near enough.

ABC has a video interview with Stephenie, linked here, and yeah, its a fun interview. :). My favorite line in the interview,

“There are so many heroes out there who have super magical powers and they can do these great things. I identify more easily with someone who is just human. And I think that’s a lot of [Bella's] appeal. All of us can understand being just human.”

Eclipse was wonderful, and don’t forget that Stephenie is touring across the country, and I will be at the Mass signing.

Eclipse commentary and quotage

Well, I haven’t read Eclipse yet, so NO SPOILERS HERE. Not that there would be ANYWAYS. Did you know that EVERY one of my “top incoming searches” is for “eclipse spoilers.” Come on now people!

Regardless of your choices, I will not be starting (and finishing presumably) Eclipse until tomorrow night. Sadly, Sadly, Sadly…. So you can’t even think about spoilers here until then!

Meyer trifecta

I wanted to list all the quotes from Stephenie’s website for July and August, leading up to Today!!!! They are on her website at www.stepheniemeyer.com/ecl_quotes.html.

July
1st) “And speaking of Italy and sports cars that I stole there, you still owe me a yellow Porsche.” — Alice Cullen

2) “I prefer brunettes.” — Edward Cullen

3) “We’re a bit sensitive to blood around here. I’m sure you can understand that.” — Bella Swan

4) “There’s something…strange about the way you two are together… The way he watches you—it’s so…protective. Like he’s about to throw himself in front of a bullet to save you or something.” — Renee Dwyer

5) “I don’t have any leeches on my speed dial.” — Jacob Black

6) “I’m really glad Edward didn’t kill you. Everything’s so much more fun with you around.” — Emmett Cullen

7) “Here’s the thing… I’ve already gone crazy once. I know what my limits are.” — Bella Swan

8 ) “Edward’s only human, Bella. He’s going to react like any other boy.” — Angela Weber

9) “I never thought I needed to teach you how to throw a punch. Guess I was wrong about that.” — Charlie Swan

10) “This hostage stuff is fun.” — Alice Cullen

11) “Does my being half-naked bother you?” — Jacob Black

12) “Do you ever think that your life might be easier if you weren’t in love with me?” — Edward Cullen

13) “I already know how strong you are. You didn’t have to break the furniture.” –—Bella Swan

14) “Would you like to hear my story, Bella? It doesn’t have a happy ending—but which of ours does? If we had happy endings, we’d all be under gravestones now.” — Rosalie Hale

15) “You aren’t exactly the best judge of what is or isn’t dangerous.” — Edward Cullen

16) “I didn’t have quite the same…upbringing as my adopted siblings here. My beginning was something else entirely.” — Jasper Hale

17) “I think I might have been wrong before, you know, about not being able to be friends. Maybe we could manage it, on my side of the line. Come see me.” — Jacob Black

18) “It’s the thought that counts. I ought to know.” — Edward Cullen

19) “Well, that just sucks! I guess I’m stuck with Mike Newton after all.” — Bella Swan

20) “Fall down again, Bella?” — Emmett Cullen

21) “Did you seriously just stamp your foot? I thought girls only did that on TV.” — Jacob Black

22) “Hey, vampire girl!” — Embry Call

23) “Besides…the more time I spend with you, the more human emotions seem comprehensible to me. I’m discovering that I can sympathize with Heathcliff in ways I didn’t think possible before.” — Edward Cullen

24) “Do you think either of them would give up if you died? They’d still fight, we all would. You can’t change anything, so just be good, okay?” — Alice Cullen

25) “I was just wondering why you stabbed him. Not that I object.” — Edward Cullen

26) “The stories say that the Cold Woman was the most beautiful thing human eyes had ever seen. She looked like the goddess of the dawn when she entered the village that morning; the sun was shining for once, and it glittered off her white skin and lit the golden hair that flowed down to her knees. Her face was magical in its beauty, her eyes black in her white face. Some fell to their knees to worship her.” — Billy Black

27) “It’s a good thing you’re bulletproof.” — Bella Swan

28) “I offered eternal servitude, remember. I’m your slave for life.” — Jacob Black

29) “I feel like screaming!” — Jessica Stanley

30) “Would you please tell me what you are thinking? Before I go mad?” — Edward Cullen

31) “Maybe you should pick on people your own size.” — Charlie Swan

August
1st) “I can’t imagine how awful that must feel. Being normal? Ugh.” — Bella Swan

2) “I know you think that I have some kind of perfect, unyielding self-control, but that’s not actually the case.” — Edward Cullen

3) “The right thing isn’t always real obvious. Sometimes the right thing for one person is the wrong thing for someone else. So…good luck figuring that out.” — Charlie Swan

4) “I never thought I’d see the day where I’d be willing to take a bet against you, Alice, but it has arrived.” — Bella Swan

5) “You’ve experienced the way I can manipulate the emotions around myself, Bella, but I wonder if you realize how the feelings in a room affect me. I live every day in a climate of emotion. For the first century of my life, I lived in a world of bloodthirsty vengeance. Hate was my constant companion.” — Jasper Hale

6) “Quite a pity how things turned out, isn’t it?” — Jane

Hope you enjoy and remember even if YOU want to be spoiled… don’t spoil it for others!

Enjoy the quotes :)
