Settlers of Catan
I bought Settlers for Justin for Christmas, and this weekend, Justin, Adam, and I played it. For Adam and I, it was our first time, but Justin has played before. Surprise Surprise, Justin won, then Adam and then FAR FAR behind, was me.
You can tell that I am a good loser eh? We made a video of us playing, in time lapse, Check it out!
Also, Matt blogged about Settlers a few times, once in an introduction post and once about the online free version.
Here is another picture of a sample game.
Wikipedia has a site on Settlers if you need more information, but seriously, just go buy it and play it. I hated losing but I still want to play again and win this time
Its a “good” addiction!

*LOL* You look soooo annoyed
Let’s play that Robo Rally game you sent me, and take a picture of you THEN!
Seriously, Settlers pretty much rocks. I’d steer clear of the Settlers card game, but friends of mine prefer it over the board game version. There’s less chance of simply doing stuff people didn’t anticipate, and more to memorize in the card game, which are the reasons I don’t like it as much. My memory sucks.
What I like even better is Carcassonne, but I’m not sure if that’s available over there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcassonne_(board_game)

Eh, that link didn’t appear properly. The (board_game) part should be part of the link.

You can play both Settlers and Carcassonne at asobrain.com, although Settlers is called Xplorers and Carcassonne is called Toulouse. I’ve played some Carcassonne/Toulouse there, but I never really had a strong enough handle on the rules to play well.

Ah, that’s cool
Basically you form closed areas. Once you’ve placed a tile, you can put a man on the tile, and once the area the man’s standing on closes, you’re getting the man back (expect for grassland), and getting points for it. You can’t put a man on an area that another man’s already standing on, but you can connect two areas where different men are standing on to form one new one. That way, you can steal areas from other people, because what ultimately counts is that you have more men down on an area than everyone else.
